Before any seeding operations the ground must be properly prepared. Areas of rush and grass, need to be mulched to form a suitable seed bed on which seed can have the best chance of germination.
Using specialist machines, DMS can efficiency top and mulch large areas with ease.
Rush Cutting
There are benefits to having some clumps of rush, such as providing wind shelter to livestock and wildlife. However, left unchecked, a few beneficial clumps can develop into large areas of complete coverage which almost entirely exclude other plant life. DMS have the specialist equipment and expertise to undertake a programme of rush cutting which allows other plants to establish. Even areas where the ground is very soft and a no-go area for standard agricultural machinery, DMS equipment is effective.
Molinia Control
The control of Molinia grass is often a prerequisite to effective moorland regeneration. By using various mulching equipment DMS can not only break down the Molinia but also leave a mulch which can be beneficial for the subsequent germination of heather seeds. While working on soft boggy ground dual wheels are fitted to our tractors ensuring that there is very little impact on sensitive vegetation and sub-surface structures.
