Grass gravel track is used where there is a desire to create a traffic durable surface that entirely blends with its surroundings. The track surface is accomplished by mixing stone with enough soil to subsequently support vegetation growth. Not only does this produce a track that grasses over to blend with the surrounding ground, but the addition of root structure through the stone and soil to the substrate of the track adds significant stability to the surface and makes it surprisingly resistant to erosion by weather and traffic. This topping technique can be applied to many existing stone track surfaces, however is classically applied as the top to a subsoil track. Once the surface is mixed the it is usually then seeded with a mixture of grass seed that is in keeping with the surrounding habitat.
